Board Update - January 28, 2026 Board Meeting - Cassie Haskell

Kicking off our board meeting on Wednesday, January 28, at Coal Ridge High School, Dr. Davis and her staff presented data demonstrating continued student growth. The presentation included an inspiring video highlighting former students and where they are today. CRHS continues to create avenues for students to explore their current interest while encouraging them to challenge themselves to do hard things.

The board also received reports from our assistant superintendent and superintendent on some of the great stories across the District that may have been missed over the holidays. Our fantastic staff at One Door - Amanda Vaughn, Cristal Aguirre, Chelsea Protz, and Dana Way - helped connect law enforcement’s “Shop with a Cop,” the Angel Tree, Toys for Tots and, the Coal Ridge National Honor Society to provide gifts to over 1,000 children in our community that may not otherwise receive any.

Rifle High School junior, Kincaid Purdue is currently serving on the Colorado Gifted and Talented Student Board. He is one of 38 students on the entirely student-run board.  Examples of Board member activities include consulting on legislation related to gifted education, recommending changes in practice, and building local GT leadership in their own districts. We are grateful for Kincaid bringing the voice of Garfield Re-2 to this state-wide board.

The most exciting news was the mid-year data showing district-wide growth in both Math and English Language Arts (ELA). Our iReady testing indicates that our students have exceeded our growth goals in both areas.  This is a clear reflection of the hard work of our staff and students.

Holly Miller, with the District Accountability Committee, reported on the work that they have been doing. Their work is integral to the District's success.

Colorado River BOCES also presented on a wide range of support services they provide to our district and how those services are being utilized, including Special Education, Gifted and Talented program, EPIC/CTE program, and Yampa Mountain High School.

The board reviewed and approved financial budget revisions for FY 26 quarterly-2nd quarter.  There will be a community finance meeting February 26 at 6 PM at the district office. This meeting will focus on district finances and continue the discussion around how we can support the district, including housing options.

Mark your calendars for our next board meeting on February 11 at 5:30 PM at Rifle High School. Thank you to all our staff, students, and families for your continued support to make Re-2 an amazing place to learn and grow!
