Garfield Re-2 School Board Reorganizes

RIFLE, CO – On December 13, 2023, the Garfield Re-2 School Board met  a regular board meeting. Prior to conducting the regularly scheduled agenda, the board approved an amendment to add a restructuring of the Board.

Board President Tony May, who was the-elected to the post at the November 29, 2023 Special School Board Meeting called for the reorganization.

“I've been seeing  a lot of political climate that has hit this board and frankly, it is not taking the right direction for our community, for our kids. . . I want to bring down the temperature of this boardroom. And I think the only way to do that is for me to step down as president and ask one of you to step up. Thank you very much for your encouragement, your positive relationships.”

Prior to the re-organization, May stated his support for Superintendent Grumley and the direction of the District.

“The board stands behind our superintendent as she's guided by the northern star of our strategic plan,” said May.

Following the approval of the amended agenda, Britton Fletchall was unanimously elected School Board President and Fathom Jensen was elected Vice President. Fletchall represents District A and was elected to the board in 2021. Jensen represents District C and was elected in 2023.

The next regularly scheduled Garfield Re-2 school board meeting will be Wednesday, January 10  at 5:30 p.m. at Elk Creek Elementary.
