Garfield Re-2 school board adopts calendars

Garfield Re-2 school board adopts calendars
The Garfield Re-2 Board of Education approved the academic calendar for the 2024-25 school year during its March 13, 2024 meeting. The two-year adoption is similar to the current calendar.
School will begin for students in Garfield Re-2 schools—serving Rifle, Silt, and New Castle—on August 12. All staff will return on August 5, and new staff will report on July 29. Winter break will begin on December 23 and last until January 6, 2025.
Students and staff will get Presidents Day off in February and then Spring Break from March 24 to March 28, 2025. The school year will end May 29, 2025 with a workday on the 30th.
Collaborative Solutions, the school district's negotiating body, presented the calendars to the board after asking families and staff to weigh in on various topics.
Families and staff were able to weigh in on their priorities through surveys over the last 18 months. There were also six community events and several staff events that asked people to create their dream calendar for consideration. Fifty-one people created calendars for review
“We wanted to educate people on a broader scale about the requirements that we need to follow,” said Collaborative Solutions and Elk Creek Elementary preschool teacher Stephanie Hinkley. “We wanted them to build their own calendars. We want ideas.”
In March, a final survey of draft calendars was provided to families and staff. The calendar that received the most votes was the calendar that most resembled the current calendar.
