Garfield Re-2 School Board Appoints Megan Heil for Director District A Seat

RIFLE, CO – At the August 13, 2025 regular school board meeting, the Garfield Re-2 School Board appointed Megan Heil to the vacant Director District A seat, replacing former board president Britton Fletchall.   Fletchall submitted his letter of resignation on Thursday, June 19, 2025, after nearly four years of service to the students, staff, and families of Garfield Re-2. At the June 25, 2025, meeting, the School Board passed a resolution to officially declare a vacancy in the District A seat.

Two residents from Director District A (generally west Rifle)  submitted letters of interest - Darlane Evans and Megan Heil.

In her letter of interest, Heil shared that she has been a resident of Garfield Re-2 for over 20 years, and has four children who have graduated from the District. 

“I have a deep and long-standing commitment to the success of our students and the well-being of our community. . .If selected to serve, I would bring to the board not only my professional background but also a strong dedication to our shared values. I am passionate about fostering student success by ensuring every child has access to quality educational opportunities.”

Heil stated she had recently retired after 20 years working in law enforcement, 13 of which were as a school resource officer. She stated that she has been an active volunteer in the district and brings previous board experience that has strengthened her understanding of governance, collaboration, and accountability.

The board thanked both candidates for their dedication to the community and applauded them for their willingness to serve. The vote to appoint Heil to the seat passed unanimously.

Because the Director District A position was vacated with more than 90-days before the November election, by law, the board was required to fill the position by appointment.

Both Director District A (generally west of Whiteriver Ave in Rifle) and Director District E (generally the town of New Castle) are up for election in November. Nomination petitions to run for those seats may be obtained at 839 Whiteriver Avenue Rifle, CO, from Sharon Donohoue between the hours of 7:00am to 1:00pm and 2:00pm to 5:00pm Monday through Thursday and 8:00 am to 12:00pm on Friday. Completed petitions shall be submitted to Sharon Donohoue no later than 12:00pm on August 29, 2025.
