Roger Gose receives CASEY Award for contributions to public education

Garfield Re-2 Director of Technology Roger Gose has been honored with the Colorado Association of School Executives’ CASEY Award, recognizing his leadership and contributions to public education across Colorado.

Gose was the unanimous choice of the CASE Coordinating Council, which cited his work helping Colorado school districts navigate the challenges and opportunities surrounding artificial intelligence and his advocacy for public schools as state leaders considered new technology policy.

For Gose, that statewide work is rooted in a much simpler goal.

“A kid in Silt deserves the same shot as a kid in Cherry Creek.”

Gose told education leaders that rural students do not get to choose where infrastructure ends, and much of his nearly 30-year career has focused on making sure geography does not determine opportunity for students.

That work has evolved dramatically. When Gose began his career, a computer lab was somewhere a class visited. Today, students carry more computing power in their backpacks than the district owned when he started. Through those changes, Gose said the purpose of the work has remained the same: creating opportunities for kids.

In accepting the award, Gose was quick to recognize the people who have worked alongside him.

“An award is a way of putting one name on the work of many,” Gose said.

He thanked his Garfield Re-2 technology team and extended the recognition to the employees whose work often happens behind the scenes, including network technicians, data staff, help desk employees, bus mechanics, nutrition services staff and custodians.

Gose also serves as president of the Colorado Association of Leaders in Educational Technology and has been actively involved in statewide conversations about the future of technology and artificial intelligence in Colorado schools.
