School Board Update June 25, 2025 - Cassie Haskell
The Garfield Re-2 School Board held its regular meeting on Wednesday, June 25 at the district office. Thank you all who came to the meeting!
We began the evening by celebrating the outstanding accomplishments of our high school spring sports athletes. Heather Grumley and Lisa Pierce shared heartfelt and enthusiastic reports on the incredible success of our student-athletes. This meeting also marked their final presentation before retiring. We extend our deepest gratitude to both Heather and Lisa for their years of dedicated service to our students, schools, and community. We will miss you both!
The core focus of the meeting was centered around school finance. We reviewed the closing of the fiscal year 2024–25 and discussed recommendations for the 2025–26 budget. In addition, Glenwood Insurance presented the district’s 2025 insurance proposal, which was subsequently approved by the Board.
During Governance action items, the Board formally declared a vacancy on the Board for District A. This position must be filled within 60 days. Community members interested in serving on the Board are encouraged to submit a letter of interest and qualifications by August 4, 2025. The Board will interview candidates during a public meeting on August 13, 2025. To be eligible, applicants must reside within Garfield Re-2 boundaries and be a resident of District A. The appointed term will run through November 2025, at which point the position will be up for election. If you are interested and need more information, you can also visit garfieldre 2.net
In closing, we all want to wish a heartfelt farewell to Britton Fletchall, who has served on the Garfield Re-2 School Board for the past four years. Britton’s leadership and vision were instrumental in shaping our strategic plan, securing salary increases for staff, and ensuring a high-quality education for the children of our district. Community members and fellow board members alike joined in expressing sincere thanks and appreciation for Britton’s tireless service during the meeting. He will be greatly missed, and we wish him all the best in his next chapter. Go BEARS!
Thank you to all who continue to support and engage with the work of the Garfield Re-2 School District.
