Garfield Re-2 Technology Department
The Garfield School District RE-2 technology team works to increase student achievement by providing students and staff with the resources necessary to learn in today's digital environment. Students in Re-2 classrooms are able to communicate, collaborate, create, and contribute in new and innovative ways.
Every teacher in our district has both a MacBook Air and an iPad Pro for educational use. All classrooms have projectors and document cameras. Students primarily use Chromebooks and GSuite apps in addition to targeted iPads and iMac labs. These tools are supported by full Cisco wireless coverage in all buildings and district-wide Centurylink fiber WAN using MOE. Our District-wide help desk troubleshoots (and often resolves) problems remotely while building technicians support on-site issues. Student data, grades, and state reports are securely housed and managed in our student information system (SIS), PowerSchool.
Quality, effective, Instructional technology use with students requires continuing training for teachers. Re-2 provides teachers and staff with high-quality professional development for every grade-level, content area, and department. RE-2 instructional technology coaches work with individual teachers, small groups, and large groups throughout the District. They support every aspect of the teaching and learning cycle (WHHW) from lesson design to best practices, and assessments. The technology team also offers a 4-day learning institute every year in June (JLI). With over 50 classes to choose from (almost all taught by RE-2 teachers), employees learn and share effective ways to use digital classroom technology.
