1. What is your position on the Board? What district do you represent? When did your appointment begin, and when does it end?
I am Board Treasurer. I represent District C and was appointed to a 2 year term starting in November of 2021.
2. Can you tell me about your history in Garfield Re-2? (Ex. How long have you lived here? Do you have kids that go to school in the district? Are you married to an employee?)
I attended Garfield Re-2 schools K-12 and am a proud graduate of Rifle High School Class of 1997. I have three children who currently attend school at Highland Elementary, Rifle Middle School and Rifle High School. My family and I moved home to Rifle in 2020 after living in Denver for 20 years.
3. Why did you want to join the Board, and what are the duties of your current role?
I wanted to join the Board to listen, connect, and collaborate with our community in service to our children. As Board Treasurer, I account for money coming into the District, sign checks and administer receipts.
4. What were your motivations for serving on the Garfield Re-2 Board of Education?
I believe deeply in access to quality education for all children. This is my primary motivation and guiding principle for serving on the Garfield Re-2 Board of Education.
5. Who are your role models in terms of leadership and service?
Our teachers, administrators, and staff show up day after day for our children. They have kept our children in in-person learning, lunches for all, sports and clubs are in full-swing and our children know they are valued and loved. These are my role models.
6. Do you have a favorite book, film or quote about education or leadership?
“In times of stress, the best thing we can do for each other is to listen with our ears and our hearts and to be assured that our questions are just as important as our answers.” - Fred Rogers
7. If you're a veteran member, what has been the best part or the hardest part about serving on the board so far? If you're a new member, what are you most looking forward to?
I am looking forward to collaborating with my fellow board members and district staff as we begin the District strategic planning. I am also excited about continued work with the Curriculum Committee.
8. Did you have a teacher or an educator that made an impact on your life? If so, please tell us about them.
Mr. Parks, a former math teacher and my cross country and track coach at Rifle High School, inspired my high school senior year foreign exchange trip to India which changed the trajectory and focus of my life. And to this day, every time I lace up my running shoes, I think of him.
