January 11, 2021 Update
We know that families are excited to watch their children play their chosen sport. Athletics are a valuable part of the educational experience, and vital to the academic success and social/emotional wellbeing of some students. We want to provide as many opportunities for our families to support their children both in-person and online while following the CHSAA and Garfield County Public Health protocols and recommendations.

Colorado High School Athletics season B officially begins on January 18, 2021, including boys and girls basketball, wrestling, competitive spirit, ice hockey, and girls swimming.

In the last five-weeks, the Season B starting date has changed twice and the Garfield County COVID-19 score has moved from Colorado Safer at Home Level “Red” to “Orange.” District athletic plans are continually being adapted to accommodate these changes.

In consultation with the Garfield County Department of Public Health, Garfield Re-2 School Districts have continued to discuss, collaborate on and revise the Season B athletic plans to meet both the CHSAA and GCPH guidelines.

At Colorado Safer at Home Level Orange, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s “What are the capacity restrictions at each level?” document states that seated events can have up to 50 people while maintaining six-foot distancing.

The Garfield Re-2 School District is committed to:
• Allowing spectators to the greatest extent possible - potentially as many as 50 spectators -  while following CDPHE, GCPH and CHSAA guidelines;
• Developing processes and procedures to facilitate the attendance of the limited number of spectators by January 15, 2021;
• Following the CDPHE, GCPH and CHSAA guidelines for mask-wearing, physical distancing, and proper disinfection of facilities between games;
• Providing opportunities for families and community members to watch events online if not allowed in person;
Continuing to review the practices and procedures as CHSAA, CDPHE or GCPH guidelines change;
