Dax Martinez began making soap with his dad about a month ago. To date, he’s sold nearly 300 bars at under $5 per unit. A third grader at Kathryn Senor Elementary, he might just be the youngest entrepreneur in Garfield Re-2.

“Me and pop were just making the soap for fun until one day when he convinced me that I should start selling it,” says Dax. “But I had no idea it would get this big when I did.”

It’s a win-win for Dax that his soap factory doubles as a fun activity for him and his dad. They start by melting big blocks of milk soap base weighing 50 pounds in crockpots. They then add in a variety of dyes and scents before pouring the mixture into a decorative mold.

The unique design of each bar of soap is made with several different molds of varying shapes and sizes. Dax says he even carves some of them out by himself.

“I’ve made a bunch of different kinds,” says Dax. “There was lavender flower, sea breeze, autumn wreath, swirly peppermint, bubble gum and lots of other ones.”

The various locations where Dax has sold his product include his aunt’s boutique shop in Loveland and Colorado Drifters Coffee and Fly Shop in New Castle. He also has a business opportunity to have his soap sold at the Splendor Mountain Spa in Glenwood Springs.

Running a business as successful as his soap factory, Dax has no plans of slowing down any time soon. In fact, he has already set financial goals for himself in the future.

“I’m saving for college, but also for an electric scooter,” says Dax.
