John Oldham
John Oldham became the Director of Facilities in March 2018.
John comes to Garfield Re-2 from Mayfield, KY where he has been the Facilities Director for the past 18-years. Experiences in Garfield County, Colorado as a younger man made a deep impression on him, and have called him back to the area.
"When I was younger, I was in Garfield County many times, hiking, fishing, just wandering around the area. There hasn't been a week gone by that those experiences haven't crossed my mind,' explained Oldham. "When I saw the position posted, I thought it seemed like a good time to make a move. My two kids are in college, the school district is great and I thought, "I would love to be a part of that.' I am humbled and honored to be asked to be a part of Garfield Re-2'

Welcome to the Facilities Department
Support Services is comprised of the following departments: Maintenance, Custodial, Grounds and Facility use. These departments continually perform maintanence and upkeep of the buildings and grounds of all the schools and school district properties. The facilities of Garfield School District Re-2 encompass 913,517 square feet of learning and support spaces, occupying 231 acres that support the communities of Rifle, Silt and New Castle. The buildings range in size from 12,000 to 147,000 square feet and in age from 1926 to 2009. GSD Re-2 facilities were rated in the top 3 percentile when evaluated during the 2008 statewide BEST evaluation. We strive for Energy Conservation and work on Capital Construction. Since 2009 the GSD Re-2 has reduced electrical consumption 33% and natural gas consumption by 9%. These savings translate to $346,431 for electrical and $27,131 for natural gas. This would pay for 7 teaching positons.
The Maintenance team provides services that include: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, roofing, snow removal, equipment repair, locks & keys and hardware. Also servicing elevators and scoreboards, Fire detection cleaning, inspections and health inspections, repairs to flooring, asphalt, boilers, concrete, and fencing, security cameras and also delivery of supplies and food to the schools.
The Custodial Services support team works hard at keeping a clean and healthy environment for the students and staff. They not only clean but they also assist with lunch duties. They clean up after school games and help with the set up for school events such as concerts and holiday events. The custodians at each school make sure the snow and ice is removed in the winter from the sidewalks and areas that need it.
The Grounds support team maintains the grounds of the schools to include 4 football, 3 soccer, 1 baseball and 5 multi-purpose fields. Maintaining the entrance areas, sidewalks and drive areas that manke up the 231 acres across the district site. During the winter months the grounds staff performs snow and ice removal for the schools. They assist with custodial fill ins and other special projects as needed.
On average the Garfield School District schedules over 3,370 outside events. All non-school use is scheduled through the Coordinator of Facility Use (COFU). This person also supervises the use and setup of the Learning Opportunities Center (LOC) located at the District Offices.
