Student Based Activities

The ICAP process enhances student engagement and supports postsecondary and workforce readiness through a variety of activities. This process supports legislation in Colorado Senate Bill 09-256. Activities will help students build skills outlined in the Garfield Re2 Graduate Profile and fulfill these essential ICAP goals:

  • Understand their interests, strengths, and values
  • Connect coursework with future goals
  • Plan for Multiple postsecondary options
  • Become more self-directed and confident learners

Elementary Activities
Grades PK-5

Through age-appropriate exploration, elementary ICAP activities help students build self-awareness, set goals, and discover careers and college options in ways that are engaging and meaningful for young learners. Activities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing self-awareness of learning styles
  • Introductions to careers and community roles
  • Participation in goal setting and reflection activities
  • Attending career explorations (*Mini Career Fair and other field trips)
  • Integrating guest speakers in school events or classroom lessons

Middle School Activities
Grades 6-8

Through student-based experimentation, middle school ICAP activities empower students to identify their strengths, take ownership of the learning through personalized planning, and begin to make school choices that match their interests. Activities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Completing interest and skill inventories
  • Developing an initial Career and Academic Plan aligned with career interests
  • Setting personal and academic goals
  • Attending middle school career fairs and CTE showcases of learning

 

High School Activities
Grades 9-12

Through expanded opportunities in planning, reflection, and real-world experience, high school ICAP activities help students refine their goals, update their academic and career plans, and prepare for life after graduation (whether going straight into careers, military, college or other pathways). Activities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain and revise a four-year career and academic plan
  • Update and reflect on career and college interests
  • Demonstrating financial literacy understanding
  • Work-Based learning experiences
  • Development of local community connections and involvement

Garfield Re-2 continues to collaborate with educators, students and families to improve the ICAP process and ensure all students are equipped for success after high school. We aim to enhance communication, strengthen documentation, increase student accessibility, and improve stakeholder understanding by regularly evaluating our ICAP practices and aligning them with best practices across Colorado.
