School Medicaid Reimbursement Program
The Garfield RE2 School Medicaid Reimbursement Program (also known as the School Health Services Program) enables school districts to seek partial reimbursement for health-related services provided to Medicaid-enrolled students who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) that includes other plans of care, such as Behavior Plans, Health Care Plans, and Health-related 504 plans.
Claiming for health-related services given at school does not diminish a child’s Medicaid* benefits in other settings. According to Colorado’s School Health Services Program, reimbursements to school districts must be used to support health-related services and programs that improve or enhance the health and wellness of all students. Reimbursement funds currently support:
-
School Nursing & Health Clerks
-
Special Service Providers, OT, PT, SLP, Audiologist
-
Special Transportation safety equipment
-
Operational support for the School Medicaid Program
Directory Release: Board Policy JRA/JRC authorizes directory release of information for the School Medicaid Reimbursement Program’s eligibility match.

The funds generated by this program do not affect or limit a child’s personal Medicaid benefits or private insurance in any way. The SHS program is completely separate from individual health insurance policies.
Families have 60 days to get health insurance anytime they lose job-based health coverage. If anyone in your family has recently experienced a life change due to loss of income or a health crisis, you may qualify for Health First or CHP+ benefits.
