Outdoor Education at Re-2 is made possible through support from Garfield County Outdoors. Garfield County Outdoors (GCO) is a collaborative initiative that connects youth and families to the outdoors. GCO is a part of the Re-2 and Garfield 16 School Districts and communities. (New Castle, Silt, Rifle & Parachute - Colorado).

The Garfield Re-2 School District continues to expand the connections between our students and the amazing environment in which we live. Led by Scott Partan, Garfield Re-2 has had the opportunity to be part of a Garfield County Great Outdoors grant in conjunction with Garfield 16 for the last five years. This grant supports all of our schools in providing outdoor experiences that tie to traditional classroom learning.

Students have had the opportunity to take field trips around the state to learn about:
  • Native American cultures
  • Pre-historic creatures
  • Work on leadership and collaboration skills on high ropes courses
  • And general expeditions that get our students moving in the great outdoors
Additionally, Garfield Re-2 has a partnership with Aspen Center for Environmental Studies - a nonprofit environmental science education organization. ACES helps our students focus on ecological literacy, regenerative agriculture, forest and ecosystem health, land restoration, and environmental leadership.

The 2023-2028 Garfield Re-2 Strategic Plan will improve the focus and resources for our outdoor education programs. We are excited for all of the great adventures to come!

OUR GOALS:

1. Garfield Re-2 and Garfield 16 will provide engaging outdoor experiences to connect youth to the outdoors.
2. Garfield Re-2 and Garfield 16 School Districts and committed community partners will provide youth career exploration opportunities through outdoor education.
3. Garfield Re-2, Garfield 16 School Districts, and committed community partners will utilize existing and new resources and local places in the communities (New Castle, Silt, Rifle, Parachute, and Battlement Mesa) to continue to break down barriers to outdoor access.

Mission

Our mission is to provide engaging outdoor education in a safe environment that empowers growth and wellness for students and staff

Vision

The Outdoor Education Department will encourage, challenge, and empower every student, every day to build connections with themselves, the community, and the outdoors.
