High School Procedures
Personal Technology Devices Initiative -
High School Procedures:
- Personal Technology Devices, including but not limited to cell phones and SmartWatches, will not be used on campus during the school day.
- Students will turn off their phones and secure them in their Yondr Pouch at the beginning of each day or leave Personal Technology Devices at home. If phones are not turned off, they are still a distraction.
- No Personal Technology Devices can be used in locker rooms and restrooms anytime, including before and after school.
- Personal Technology Devices are allowed on field trips that occur during the school day if the teacher/sponsor/coach gives permission.
- Personal Technology Devices may be used on field trips, trips to competitions, and overnight trips if the sponsor/coach gives permission.
- Only wired headphones are allowed to be used with Chromebooks. Wireless headphones like Earbuds/Airpods are not allowed and will need to be added to the collection of Personal Technology Devices.
- Parents and guardians are welcome to call the office if they need to contact their students.
- Students can ask to use a phone if there is a need.
- Teachers will not require the use of cell phones for instructional time. All students are given a CB.
- Students may use Personal Technology Devices after school depending on the coach or sponsor's guidelines.
- Personnel computers are also not to be used during school hours.
Student Consequences for Personal Technology Device Misuse:
First Offense:
- Your teacher will take your phone and send it to the office.
- Administration will contact your parent/guardian.
- Your parent/guardian must pick up the phone from the office at the end of the school day.
Second Offense:
- The same steps as the first offense will be followed.
- A behavior plan will be created to address the issue.
- The plan will require you to check your phone into the office daily for a set period of time.
- The plan will also outline steps you can take to show responsibility and earn back the privilege of keeping your phone.
- Clear consequences for additional offenses will be outlined in the plan.
Additional Offenses:
- The principal will meet with your parents/guardians to discuss the situation.
- Additional consequences will be assigned based on defiance or insubordination and as outlined in the behavior contract.
- Further consequences will be given for failing to comply with a teacher's instructions regarding Personal Technology Devices.
Important Reminders:
- If you lose or damage your Yondr Pouch, you will need to pay for a replacement.
- If you forget your Yondr Pouch, you must turn in your Personal Technology Devices to the office.
- You always have the option to leave your phone at home or in your car to avoid any issues.
- Administrators will consider the amount of time between offenses when determining consequences.
Exceptions:
- Exceptions will be made for technology devices needed for medical reasons recognized by a certified medical professional.
- Exceptions will be made for accommodations and modifications outlined in the IEP/504.
- Any other exceptions can be made with approval from the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
- If exceptions are granted, they must be well documented and communicated.
These measures are in place to ensure a focused and respectful learning environment for everyone.
