The Garfield Re-2 School District is excited to announce four candidates for Principal for the 22-23 school year.  Staff, students and community members are invited to meet the candidates on Thursday, May 26, at Rifle High School beginning at 5:30 p.m. The following candidates will be interviewed by a panel of students, staff, administrators and family members on Thursday, May 26 and Friday, May 27:

 

Dr. Richard L. Best - Dr. Best currently serves as the Vision Academy Charter School Executive Director for Academics and Student Services in Lansdowne, PA. Dr. Best has served in a variety of roles in education including Superintendent of South Holland Public School District 151 in South Holland IL, Professor of Education at National Louis University in Chicago, IL, and Executive Director for Teaching and Academic Development at CSMI/Chester Community Charter Schools in Chester, PA. Dr. Best holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction and Educational Leadership from the University of Illinois, a  Master of Education from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and General Science from Amherst College.

 

Thomas H. Clowes - Mr. Clowes comes from the Carroll County Public School system in Westminster, MD where he has been a high school principal, high school assistant principal and Coordinator of Curriculum and Instruction. He has also worked for the Maryland State Department of Education as a grant coordinator, and as an adjunct professor at Carroll Community College. He holds a Masters of Science-School Administration and Leadership from Johns Hopkins University, a Bachelor of Science-Secondary Social Sciences Education and a Bachelor of Arts-Government and Politics from the University of Maryland.

 

Dr. Greg Rockhold - Dr. Rockhold is currently the Director of Programs for the Regional Educational Cooperative VII in Hobbs, NM. He has served as the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at Heizer Middle School, Principal at Tse' Bit' Ai Middle School in Shiprock, NM and Davis-Ramoth Memorial School, Selawik, AK and is the former Superintendent for Hayden School District. Dr. Rockhold has a Bachelors of Science and a Masters of Education from Eastern New Mexico University and a Ph.D. with an emphasis on Educational Leadership from Trinity Southwest University.

 

Kristen Takara - Ms. Takara currently serves as the Extended Learning Network Coordinator in the Montrose County School District. Prior to her tenure in Montrose, Ms. Takara was the assistant principal at the Magnolia School of Excellence, a 6-12 school in Shreveport, LA  and filled several positions in the Bossier Parish Schools including STEAM Coordinator and Curriculum Coach. She holds a Bachelors of Arts in Education from Louisiana State University, a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision / Curriculum and Instruction from Centenary College of Louisiana and is finishing her Education Specialist degree School Leadership and School Improvement from the University of Florida–Shreveport, Shreveport, La.
