Garfield Re-2 Board Update - July 15, 2026 - Megan Heil

Garfield Re-2 Board Update - July 15, 2026 - Megan Heil

The Board of Education met on Wednesday evening for our regular July meeting as we continue preparing for the start of another exciting school year. Summer is always a busy season behind the scenes, with administrators and staff working diligently to ensure our schools are ready to welcome students back in just a few short weeks.

One of the most significant items on this month's agenda was the approval of numerous personnel recommendations. We welcomed many new teachers, counselors, coaches, paraprofessionals, maintenance staff, and support personnel who will be joining schools across the district this fall. We also approved several internal transfers that allow talented staff members to continue serving students in new roles where their skills and experience can have an even greater impact. These hiring decisions represent months of recruitment and planning and reflect the district's continued commitment to attracting and retaining quality educators and staff.

The Board also approved an agreement with Garfield County related to election administration should a district election be necessary this November. This action simply allows the district to coordinate election services with the County and does not represent a decision by the Board to place a bond or mill levy override on the ballot. The Board continues to carefully weigh information, ask questions, and evaluate options as we work to make the best decisions for our staff, students, and the communities we serve.

Although our regular meetings are a bit shorter during the summer months, there is a tremendous amount of work taking place throughout the district. Our administrators, teachers, support staff, and maintenance and operations teams are hard at work preparing classrooms, campuses, and programs for another successful school year.

Thank you to everyone who continues to invest in the success of Garfield Re-2. I am grateful for the dedication of our employees, the partnership of our families, and the engagement of our community. As a Board, we remain committed to listening, learning, and making thoughtful decisions that put students first while supporting our staff and being good stewards of our community's trust. I hope everyone continues to enjoy a safe and restful summer, and we look forward to welcoming our students back for another great year in Garfield RE-2.
