Spring is blowing in, and with that, spring sports are underway! I’ve enjoyed watching the Rifle and Coal Ridge girls' golf teams; they are representing Re-2 well. Good luck to all of our spring athletes this season!

At Wednesday night’s school board meeting, our Nutrition Services team highlighted the incredible work they are doing. Not only are they providing free breakfast and lunch to our students, but they are also securing additional funding so our kids can enjoy Colorado-grown foods. A big thank you to all 32 members of our Nutrition Services team for everything they do to support our students and families.

We also reviewed quarterly financials and heard from Jason regarding the State of Colorado economic forecast and where the district currently stands on third-quarter revenue and expenses. Re-2 has made several positive financial moves over the past three years, including reducing the central office budget by $740,000. I also want to highlight that our district ranks in the top 30 for lowest administrative salary costs, with only 1.1% of our budget going toward administration. In addition, our financial department has negotiated agreements with local partner banks for better interest rates, we continue to see utility cost reductions from the completed JCI project, and the work from collaborative solutions to minimize increases in our healthcare plan costs.

I’m happy to report that the district’s current spending patterns are on track to remain at or below the approved budget.

Thank you for your continued support of our schools, staff, and students. It is encouraging to see the great things happening across Re-2, and I look forward to all that is still to come this spring.
