From the Board, September 2, 2025 - Chance Jenkins

As a proud member of the Garfield Re-2 School Board, I’m thrilled to welcome students, staff, and families to an exciting new school year that began on August 13. Our classrooms, from Rifle to New Castle, are alive with the energy of fresh beginnings, as students dive into robust curricula packed with core academics, extracurriculars, and innovative programs. It’s invigorating to see our schools buzzing again, and I’m personally energized by the promise of what lies ahead—a year of growth, achievement, and collaboration that will shape our students’ futures.

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our families for their incredible understanding during the unexpected delay caused by the Lee Fire and nearby Elk Fire, which pushed our start date back by two days. These wildfires disrupted communications, affected air quality, and led to evacuations in parts of our region, making it critical to prioritize safety. Your patience and flexibility in adapting to the adjusted schedule made all the difference, allowing us to launch the school year smoothly. I’m truly grateful for the way our community came together, demonstrating the strength and support that define Garfield Re-2.

Looking forward, I’m immensely thankful for the continued support from our families, whose involvement is the heartbeat of our district’s success. From volunteering in classrooms to cheering at school events and engaging in district initiatives, your dedication fuels our mission to provide high-quality education for every student. I’m excited to see this partnership thrive and invite everyone to stay connected through parent-teacher associations, district updates, and community forums as we make this year one to remember.

In closing, this school year fills me with optimism and pride as we move past the challenges of the Lee Fire and embrace the opportunities ahead. As a school board member, I’m committed to supporting our students, staff, and parents. I’m confident that with our families’ steadfast support, Garfield Re-2 will achieve great things together.
