Garfield Re-2 Policies
Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) are devices that can save lives if used correctly and at the appropriate times. As such, the Board of Education recognizes that the devices should be part of approved safety equipment available, where possible, for use at district schools. The Board of Education directs the Superintendent or his/her designee to develop appropriate regulations and procedures for the purchase, storage, training, and use of AEDs.
The Food and Drug Administration considers automatic External Defibrillators proscriptive devices. District Office staff shall work with the Health Services to ensure that all legal requirements are met before authorizing the use of any AED.
Use of an AED donated to or purchased by the school district is limited to school property and school events.
Staff training for the use of AEDs shall be ongoing to ensure that adequate numbers of school district employees are trained in the use of the AED.
