Naming Facilities
In naming facilities, the Board shall appoint an advisory committee to recommend three names. The Board shall have the final decision in the naming of the facility.
The facility names committee shall be composed of nine members; one from each of the five Board director districts, appointed by the Board member from his or her director district. In addition, the Board will appoint three citizens from the attendance area of the facility being named and one district staff person.
Facilities are generally named for the geographical area they represent, an outstanding citizen of the community, or an educator who has provided outstanding service to the district. If named for a person, the person must be deceased or retired from active participation in the community or school affairs.
Names of existing facilities are not to be considered for change except by the request of a representative group of citizens of the area affected, or at the specific request of the administrative staff or the Board of Education. The committee will seek input from the community involved before any recommendations are made to the Board.
