Job Sharing in Professional Staff Positions

The Board authorizes teacher job-sharing programs in the school district for classroom teachers. A teacher job-sharing program is generally defined as a plan by which two presently employed teachers share one full-time teaching assignment, with each teacher assuming instructional responsibility for approximately one-half of the time each week.

A proposed program may be prepared and submitted to the superintendent by any teacher or administrator no later than May 1 of the preceding school year.

No program shall be approved unless it will be beneficial to students and/or staff. Approval of a program shall be consistent with state law, Board policies, and administrative requirements. Approval of a program shall in no way restrict or modify the prerogatives and authority of the Board.

The superintendent shall approve a proposed program if they determine the program meets and is consistent with the criteria set out in the accompanying regulations. Approval or denial by the superintendent shall be subject to review and modification by the Board. Upon approval of a program, the Board shall retain the ultimate discretion to discontinue, modify, or extend the program. However, in exercising such discretion, the Board shall not unjustifiably modify any rights or obligations secured for a participating teacher by his or her employment contract.
