Early Graduation

A student who, for sound educational and vocational reasons, wishes to graduate from high school in less time than the ordinary grade 9-12 sequence may request permission to complete graduation requirements on an altered schedule.

The student and his or her parents or guardians are required to submit a completed formal application obtained from the guidance office.  The formal application shall be completed and returned to the guidance office by the date stated on the application.

A counselor will review the completed application(s) to ensure that the student(s) will meet the early graduation requirements and have earned a cumulative 2.0 grade point average by the desired date of graduation.  The counselor will conference with the students and the parents/guardians to establish that they are fully aware of the advantages and disadvantages of early graduation.

After the counselor has established that early graduation requirements have been met, the application(s) will be forwarded to the principal for final approval.  The principal shall review each request and grant or deny each application.  If denied, the student and his or her parents/guardians can ask for a review of the principal's denial through the established chain of authority.

Students who are early graduates are not eligible to compete against other schools in high school contests, competitions, or exhibitions after their early graduation date.

To be eligible for valedictorian and salutatorian, a student must complete eight (8) semesters of high school coursework.  Thus, early graduates are not eligible to be considered for valedictorian and salutatorian.

Students who have reached the legal age are not required to involve their parents or guardians in the process leading to early graduation.

An application for early graduation may be revoked by an applicant at any time prior the desired date of graduation.

Formal graduation ceremonies are only held once a year near the end of the second semester.
