IKFB-R

Valedictorian/Salutatorian Selection

In the interest of encouraging and recognizing outstanding academic achievement, a valedictorian and salutatorian will be selected for each high school graduating class.  To be eligible for consideration for valedictorian or salutatorian, a student must be enrolled in a district high school from the beginning of the second quarter of the student’s senior year.  Transfer students must be enrolled from the beginning of the senior year to be considered for class honors.  A transfer student may achieve four-year academic letter status if a transcript evaluation reveals that the student has met all of the criteria.  The valedictorian and salutatorian will be selected according to the following criteria:

1.  The valedictorian will be the student with the highest grade point average as computed at the end of eight semesters of high school work, the student who chose to take the most rigorous schedule offered at the school and a recipient of a four-year academic letter in academics. In the case where two or more students meet all three above criteria, then all students will be declared co-valedictorian.

2. The salutatorian will be the student with the second highest grade point average as computed at the end of eight semesters of high school work and a recipient of a four-year academic letter.

3. To compute the grade point average, all coursework will be considered.

4. Foreign exchange students will not be considered in computing class rank and, therefore, will not be eligible for any academic honors.

5. To be eligible for valedictorian or salutatorian, a student must be enrolled at Garfield Re-2 High School continuously from the beginning of or prior to the second quarter of the student's senior year.
