Garfield Re-2 Policies
JJIB-R 2
Middle/Jr. High School Eligibility Requirements For All Athletic Activities
Physical Examination
All participating students must have a current, valid physical examination form on file with the receiving school prior to beginning practice in an athletic activity.
Proof of Insurance
All participating students must have proof of accidental injury insurance or a waiver form indicating election not to be insured on file with the receiving school prior to beginning practice or the activity.
ImPact Testing
All participating students athletics will be required to undergo ImPact (immediate Post Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) assessment. If the athlete is believed to have suffered a head injury during competition, ImPact is used to help determine the severity of head injury and when the injury has fully healed.
Parental Consent
All participating students must have parental consent and medical consent forms on file with the receiving school prior to beginning practice or the activity.
Training Rules
All participating students must sign a training rules form. This form must be on file with the receiving school prior to beginning the practice or activity.
Out-of-district and Private School Students
Students from other school districts that have boundaries contiguous to the Garfield Re-2 School District may participate in interscholastic activities in this district if the school in which the student is enrolled does not sponsor the particular activity and if the student meets the Garfield Re-2 District's eligibility requirements for participation.
Home School Rules
Students who are residents of this school district, but who are being educated in non-public home-based programs, may participate in any district athletic activity provided they:
1. Comply with all laws governing non-public home-based education.
2. Meet all district eligibility requirements for participation except for class attendance.
3. Fulfill the same responsibilities and standards of behavior and performance, including related classroom or practice requirements, as other students participating in the activity.
Participation
Playing time is based upon eligibility, effort in practice, and understanding of the concepts of the game. All eligible players will participate in each regular season game/contest.
Classroom Eligibility
Academic
Weekly eligibility forms are filled out on all participants by the teachers. If the participant is failing in one or more academic areas, he or she will be considered ineligible for that week's contest. If there are two contests in the same week, the participant will miss a minimum of one contest. The participant may be eligible for the second contest if the teacher who had marked the student ineligible feels that he or she has done sufficient work to raise the grade.
Eligibility will primarily be based on the student's overall grade with considerations given to the work done on a weekly basis. Should a student require extra help or have make-up work, the student will be allowed to do so with no penalty.
Behavior
Students are to abide by the expectations of their classroom teachers and coaches. When a teacher feels that the behavior interferes with the learning process of that student and/or others in the class, the student may be declared ineligible. The student may not, however, make up or improve a behavior grade to become eligible for a second contest in the same week. The student will miss all contests during that week. If the behavior warrants a referral, see school eligibility.
School eligibility
Any student who receives an office referral may be determined ineligible. Unless the student is suspended from the team, he or she must continue to practice. Students who are declared ineligible may not be allowed to travel with the team.
Students must be in school at least half a day on the day of the contest to be eligible to compete. Any exceptions must be approved by the principal or the designee.
