School Nurses

Nursing services shall be provided largely by the district school nurse with the assistance of health clerks.  The district nurse shall also work with the public health nurses in the provision of health services.  The school nurses shall report directly to the associate superintendent.

The major duties and responsibilities of the district nurse shall be to:

 

1. Interpret school health programs to individuals and groups.

2. Interpret health policies and procedures.

3. Recognize deviation from normal in the physical, mental, and emotional health of students and inform appropriate authorities.

4. Interpret the health needs of students to parents, school personnel, and community groups.

5. Teach health to individuals and groups.

6. Coordinate health services and health education.

7. Maintain adequate and accurate health records.

8. Work with other professional personnel from public and private agencies toward achieving better student health.

9. Administer first aid in accordance with policy.

10. Compile and interpret data pertaining to health services.

11. Remain current in professional nursing responsibilities.
