Garfield Re-2 Policies

School-Community Relations Goals
The Board believes that one of the main objectives of school-community relations should be to stimulate people to learn more about the schools so that they can participate more intelligently in solving educational problems. While accomplishing this objective, the operation of the schools can be geared to public interests and desires. Good school-community relations require effective two-way communication between the school and the community.
The superintendent shall act under the guidance and policies of the Board. The superintendent shall report and interpret Board policies to the staff and various government agencies and conduct an active informational program throughout the community to promote widespread understanding of the school program.
Employees and Board members are often asked to participate directly in the program of informing the community about various problems encountered and of services offered in operating the schools. All Board members and school employees represent the school in various ways: over the telephone, through written communications, on the grounds, in the hallways, in the classrooms, in community gatherings, and in many other ways. Students play their part, too, by direct participation in extracurricular activities, school exhibits, field trips and by conveying their impressions of their school to their parents and friends.
Advisory committees are also encouraged to be formed for securing community participation in improving the educational program.
